Gedruckt werden etwa Bar-codes und variable Daten, die die Rückverfolgbarkeit im Sinne des Verbraucherschutzes sicherstellen. „Haben wir frü-her alle 15 Minuten die Etiket-ten gewechselt, hat sich heute das Zeitfenster auf bis zu 40 Mi-nuten erhöht“, so der Betriebs-leiter. Die kontinuierliche Lauf-zeit der Maschinen verlängert sich deutlich. Stillstandszeiten wurden um bis zu 40 % ge-senkt. Etikettenanlage und Ver-packungsmaschine sind steue-rungs- und softwaretechnisch aufeinander abgestimmt. „Es handelt sich um eine System-lösung, die bedienerfreundlich in der täglichen Handhabung ist“, sagt Horst Waldner, Head of Food Processing & Packaging Sales der GEA in Deutschland. „Darüber hinaus ist sie für wei-ter steigende Kapazitäten aus-gelegt.“ Ein weiterer Vorteil ist der geringe Platzbedarf des Eti-kettierers. Installiert innerhalb der Bahnenbreite der Verpa-ckungsmaschine, entstehen bei limitiertem Platzangebot keine Überhänge. Als Packstoff dient Weichfolie zum Vakuumverpa-cken der Bratwürste. Hygiene-Design Der Kundenkreis umfasst Dis-counter, Lebensmittelmärkte, Gastronomie sowie weiterver-arbeitende Betriebe in Deutsch-land, Europa und den USA. „Si-cherheit und Hygiene spielen in diesem Umfeld eine äußerst wichtige Rolle“, skizziert Flo-rian Hoeneß die Anforderun-gen. Rostfreier Stahl und die hohe Schutzart aller Kompo-nenten erlauben eine komplet-te Nassreinigung der Gesamtli-nie. Es müssen keine Bauteile demontiert werden. Die offene Rahmenbauweise ermöglicht die schnelle und effiziente Rei-nigung. Schmiermittelfreie La-ger im Hub sorgen für Fettfrei-heit, so dass keinerlei Fremd-materialien an bzw. in die Maschine gelangen. Alle drei GEA PowerPak-Tiefziehverpa-ckungsmaschinen sind auf den Bedarf des Bratwurstprodu-zenten abgestimmt. „Trotz der Vielzahl der Packungsgrößen haben sich die Laufzeiten deut-lich verlängert“, betont Florian Hoeneß. Auch vier GEA Thermoformer sind im Einsatz. Sie haben von Anfang an problemlos funktio-niert. That means that the packaging ma-chines must support frequent format changes. The necessary reconfigurations must take place quickly, safely and reli-ably. From a technical stand-point, swivel-mounted top tools make it simple to change tools. Formsets can be quickly dismounted from the packag-ing machine and replaced with new formats. Reduced downtimes To further minimise down-times during bratwurst pro-duction, the topics of film and label changes were crucial factors in the company’s deci-sion to invest in the machines. First of all, the thermoforming machines use jumbo film rolls in standardised widths with corresponding lengths, which guarantee long runtimes. Sec-ondly, the thermoforming ma-chine’s two labelling systems with large label rolls prove their excellent performance. Among other things, the machines can print bar codes and variable dates, which ensure traceabil-ity from a consumer protection point of view. “Where we used to have to change labels every 15 minutes, now the window period has been increased to 40 minutes,” explains the plant manager. This significantly increases the machines’ con-tinual runtime. It can reduce downtime by up to 40 %. Labelling systems and packag-ing machines are coordinated via operational and software technology. “This is a full system solution, which is user-friendly in everyday operation,” says Horst Waldner, Head of Food Processing & Packaging Sales for GEA in Germany. “Plus, it is designed for ever-growing capacities.” Another benefit is that the labeller takes up less space. Because it is installed within the frame width of the packaging machine, there is no bothersome overhang, even on production floors where space is limited. Soft film is used as the packaging material for va- cuum-packing the bratwursts. Hygiene-friendly design Stainless steel and the high pro-tection class of all components allow complete wet cleaning of the entire line. The open frame construction makes cleaning quick and efficient. Lubri-cant- free bearings in the lifting system guarantee freedom from grease, which means that no foreign objects wind up on or inside the machine. All three of the PowerPak machines are custom-made and finely tuned to meet the needs of the brat-wurst producer. “Despite the wide variety of package sizes, the runtimes have been sig-nificantly increased,” Florian Hoeneß is pointing to one of the major advantages of the machines. There’s the modular construction, which can be retroactively adapted to meet ever-changing packaging re-quirements. There are four GEA thermoformers in opera-tion at HoWe.
